Writing Lab Appointment Guidelines

For both face-to-face or email appointments:

  1. Find and click the link for the appointment page. You may do this from here or from the link at the top of writing.iliff.edu.
  2. On the appointment page, click an available appointment button > Save.
  3. If you later want to cancel the appointment, delete or decline the appointment event from your calendar. Then others can book the appointment.

Online oR Email Appointments

We can help you via email with questions or papers you send to writing@iliff.edu (no more than 10 pages) at least one hour before the time you reserve. If you want us to read your work, you should make an online appointment. Questions are welcome without an appointment.

A consultant will review your paper during the time of your appointment via email. We will respond to you as soon as possible with suggestions for improvements to your writing. Your email answer may include comments in a reply email and 'track changes' in your Word document. In most common versions of Word, go to "Review" and click "Track Changes" to turn it on. More information on Track changes can be found here. We prefer you send us your work in a Word-compatible document format.

Please limit yourself to one online appointment per week. This service is for all Iliff students, so it should be available for the maximum number of people. If you have already been to the lab in a week, the staff might give your slot to a person who has not.

Face-to-Face Appointments

If you would like the staff to review your work before you meet (maximum 10 pages, double-spaced, 12-pt font), please make sure it is emailed to writing@iliff.edu at least an hour before you are scheduled to meet. This can help us give you much more detailed feedback. Walk-ins are welcome if you catch us at the Writing Lab table, but appointments will be honored first.  If you find you at the last minute that you cannot make your meeting, please email writing@iliff.edu to let us know as a courtesy.

You don't have to have something written to meet with us. You are welcome to meet with a consultant before you begin paper, when you get stuck, or when you need one last revision. We are eager to help you improve your skills. Most students find face-to-face meetings the most helpful service we offer.
