Most materials may be checked out until the end of the quarter. Library users are only guaranteed a two-week circulation period, after which materials may be recalled for another user. Recalled materials must be returned by the date on the recall notice.
Renewals may be made up to two weeks before the due date in person at the circulation desk, by telephone (303-765-3173), by email or through your library account in ISAIAH. Materials that have holds placed on them may not be renewed. Materials may be renewed only twice.
Materials should be returned to the circulation desk in the library during regular hours or placed in the book drop located by the main entrance to Skaggs Hall if the Library is closed. Library users will be charged for lost or damaged materials (see "Fines", below). Transcripts may be held if problems regarding library circulation matters are not resolved.
The circulation staff is trained to assist library users in using the online public access catalog (ISAIAH) and in finding the answers to basic reference questions. The staff also will help if a library user is unable to locate an item in the stacks, either by initiating a trace for missing materials or by recalling items checked out to other individuals. Ask at the circulation desk for assistance. For more advanced help, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.

Recalls vs. Holds
A library user who wishes to borrow an item that is already checked out to someone else has two options: Hold or Recall. If the user wants to wait to borrow the item until the previous user returns it, the requestor may place a hold on it using the "Request Item" or "Request Copy" buttons from the online catalog (ISAIAH). If the user needs the item before it is due to be returned, the user should initiate a recall at the circulation desk; once the two-week guaranteed checkout period has elapsed, the circulation staff will recall the item. In both cases, the staff will notify the requester when the item is available for check out. The item will be held at the circulation desk for seven (7) days after it has been returned. Library users need to respond to recall notices in a timely manner.
Most materials $ 0.10 / item / day
Recalled materials $ 1.00 / item / day
Materials on hold $ 1.00 / item / day
Reserve materials $ 0.50 / item / hour
Staff may deny library privileges to library users with unpaid fines. The library accepts cash or checks for fines. If a user wishes to appeal a fine, a written rationale must be sent to the Library Director.
Library users must pay for library materials they lose or damage. Failure to do so will result in suspension of library privileges. The charge for a lost or damaged book is $50 for replacement plus $15 for processing. Charges for reference books, periodicals, and special collections materials may be higher. The charge for rebinding a damaged book cover is $10.
All library users must register at the circulation desk and show valid identification indicating current address and telephone number in order to obtain borrowing privileges and a library card. Library users must keep the library informed of changes in status, address, e-mail, or telephone number. Failure to do so may result in loss of library privileges.
The library card must be presented each time a library user wishes to check out materials. Loss or theft of a card should be reported to the library staff immediately. Replacement cards cost $1 (first time) and $5 (second time). Library users may not check out materials in the name of another individual, with the exception of students working as faculty assistants (permission letters must be on file at the circulation desk; see our Circulation and Interlibrary Loan Assistant for more information).
Library materials left in study carrels must be checked out. Reference materials and periodicals may not be left in study carrels. Carrels are inspected periodically, and the occupant of a carrel with materials that have not been checked out may be subject to fines up to $5 per item.
Please do not re-shelve books. Leave reference works in the reference area and periodicals in the periodicals area. Return books from the general stacks to one of the book carts or to the circulation desk.
A security system has been installed to discourage theft of items from the collection. If the alarm sounds as a library user leaves the Library, the user must return to the circulation desk where his/her backpack, briefcase, and/or books will be checked.
